The Poultry Farming Workshop – Best Practices and Techniques is a comprehensive, full-day event designed to educate both new and experienced poultry farmers on practical, sustainable, and efficient approaches to raising chickens. This workshop is ideal for individuals who wish to enhance their knowledge of poultry farming and improve their farm productivity.
The day begins at 09:00 AM with an opening session where participants are welcomed by the association’s board and trainers. During this session, attendees are introduced to the objectives of the workshop, including sustainable practices, disease prevention, nutritional strategies, and productivity optimization. The opening remarks will highlight the importance of community collaboration and the role of poultry farming in supporting local food security and economic growth in Acoua.
From 09:30 AM to 11:00 AM, the first technical session will focus on breeding and flock management. Topics will include selecting healthy chicks, understanding breed characteristics, optimal stocking densities, and housing requirements. Participants will have the opportunity to inspect live poultry examples and learn practical techniques for ensuring healthy growth and minimizing losses.
A coffee break and networking session will follow from 11:00 AM to 11:30 AM, allowing farmers to share experiences, discuss challenges, and exchange tips with peers. This informal session encourages relationship building and collective problem-solving.
From 11:30 AM to 01:00 PM, the second session will cover nutrition and feeding strategies. Attendees will learn about the importance of balanced diets, locally available feed options, and techniques to reduce waste while maximizing growth and health. Practical demonstrations on mixing feed, calculating nutritional requirements, and supplementing diets will provide participants with actionable skills to implement on their farms.
After a lunch break from 01:00 PM to 02:00 PM, the afternoon sessions will begin with a disease prevention and biosecurity module from 02:00 PM to 03:00 PM. Experts will demonstrate proper vaccination schedules, hygiene practices, and early detection of common poultry diseases. Attendees will learn how to protect their flocks, minimize losses, and maintain overall farm productivity.
The final session, from 03:00 PM to 04:00 PM, will focus on market access and sustainability practices. Participants will be guided on selling products effectively, establishing local market connections, and implementing environmentally responsible farming methods. The session will conclude with a Q&A segment where attendees can discuss specific challenges and receive personalized advice from trainers.
